OpenAI appointed Paul Christiano to the OpenAI Foundation Board, where he joins the Safety and Security Committee, and as a non voting observer on the board of OpenAI Group PBC. Christiano led OpenAI's alignment research from 2017 to 2021, pioneering reinforcement learning from human feedback, founded the Alignment Research Center, and is a senior technical adviser at the US Center for AI Standards and Innovation. The appointment came the same day an Anthropic researcher resigned warning of extinction risk.
